Irish Pressings

Finding a route to better production information.

An account previously published by IRDG, republished here as a record of how a member used the network at the time. Roles and programme names are those in the original account.

The challenge

  • Product-specific "black folders" held each job's information — safety checks, tool set-up, operator instructions and quality inspections — and were created and maintained by hand.
  • The company was growing, including approval as a Tier 1 automotive supplier at the time, and the manual approach was taking more and more resource.
  • Research into solutions kept leading to off-the-shelf packages that would not fit the company's own production processes.

How IRDG was involved

  • The question was put to the IRDG membership through Members Question Time, as the account puts it, more in hope than expectation.
  • Members shared insights and a recommendation that led to a provider the company says it would not otherwise have found.
  • IRDG returned the responses in a report; the company shortlisted the solutions of interest.

What the account reports

  • A project with the recommended provider was being planned, with work plans being finalised, at the time of the account.
  • Real-time tablets, fingerprint identification, and data analysis and visualisation were on the cards to replace the paper folders.
  • The company described the planned work as a transformative project. The account does not report its delivery.

IRDG services used

Sceptical about whether we would receive any responses we were genuinely amazed – and incredibly grateful – for the insights that were shared with us.
